Carl Rasmussen, einer der berühmtesten dänischen Marine- und Grönlandmaler, wurde 1841 in Ærøskøbing geboren. 1893 kam er auf einer Grönlandreise ums Leben. Hier hängen viele seiner wichtigen Werke, die einen ganz besonderen Zauber ausüben. Rasmussen kann das Licht auf Schnee und Wasser einfange wie wenig andere und hat beachtliche Zeitdokumente eines wenig bekannten Landes geschaffen.


Licht- und Kameraverhältnisse ergeben nur bescheidene Fotoergebnisse, doch es gab leider keine Kunstpostkarten von den Bildern.
